Semi-trucks are essential to the world's material handling and transportation infrastructure. While the manufacturing process takes time because of the sheer size and weight of the product being built, it is a necessary process that leads to efficient, well-regulated commercial trade. It all starts with the bearing frame - without this critical support structure, the heavier parts would not be able to be adequately balanced. The chassis is assembled using pneumatic tools specifically geared towards large-scale production. The next step in the process involves configuration and installation of mechanical parts, including the differential and the axle. Wheel assembly is then completed to ensure proper braking. A very interesting point - to make sure that the mounting procedures go according to specifications, the assembly is done upside down with a crane that can lift up to 12,000 kilos! After slowly flipping the construct right-side up, the engine and transmission portions of the assembly are completed at a different workstation. Next, the cab assembly, which includes painting, interior installation, and ultimately placement onto the chassis is finished. A test start up verifies that everything is in working order before the semi-truck is given to the happy customer! A long, sometimes arduous process of making a forklift is now complete!
